From theverybeginning,when Iarrived inNepal,mychildren's

thought was my motivation for writing this book. Moreover,

throughout the entire project Theomary gaveme unstinting support

and encouragement, sustaining with her love, laughter, knowledge

and friendship. She listened to me patiently, she read without

complaint my drafts, andmade invaluable suggestions and editorial

comments,manyofwhicharenow folded into the text.

For all this, and much, much more, I can never thank her

enough.

I owe huge thanks to my teammates, from the Ama Dablam

expedition, for the beautiful pictures they suppliedme, especially to

Kevin Adams, Mark Johncox, Aldus Baltutis, Tim and Becky Rippel,

andClaytonSheen,etc.

Also, I am enormously grateful to my 2006 Ama Dablam

teammatesand thePeakFreaksorganizationwhogenerouslyallowed
